Um dos maiores problemas encontrados por usuários de Wii, a falta de espaço para armazenamento de dados, terá um fim em breve. Segundo o site IGN, "Guitar Hero 5" dará início a uma nova fase do console, que permitirá streaming (método de fluxo de dados que são usados a medida em que chegam ao aplicativo) em cartões de memória SD de alta capacidade (SDHC), de até 32 GB.
"Todos os truques usados para 'Guitar Hero' e 'Rock Band' no passado - de deixar a memória interna vaga - se foram. Em vez disso, acesso direto ao cartão SD está disponível, e isso significa downloads mais fáceis, expansões maiores e carregamentos mais rápidos para os dados de música de 'Guitar Hero 5' guardados no cartão SD", escreve o site.
Com isso, o sistema de download de "Guitar Hero 5" ficará semelhante o do Xbox 360 e PlayStation 3, permitindo comprar pacotes e até álbuns inteiros, com preços diferenciados. Até agora, os donos do Wii só podiam adquirir uma canção por vez. A Nintendo está oferecendo a tecnologia para qualquer produtora que quiser trazer conteúdo extra para seus jogos de Wii. Um cartão SD de 32 GB custa a partir de US$ 150 nos Estados Unidos.

"Guitar Hero 5" prevê mudanças significativas em relação à ultima edição canônica, chamada de "World Tour". A primeira delas é o sistema de avaliação, com seis estrelas, permitindo uma avaliação melhor do desempenho do jogador.
Além disso, cada canção traz um desafio temático, como manter o multiplicador por algum tempo no nível 4x, conseguir determinada pontuação ou usar a alavanca de tremolo o quanto puder. "Guitar Hero 5" também prevê avatares de artistas famosos: já estão confirmados nesta edição a lenda do country Johnny Cash, o guitarrista Carlos Santana e Shirley Manson, vocalista do Garbage.
